2013 Beijing Marathon will be held on October 20th , 2013 in Beijing.

VIII.       Race events

Marathon (42.195km), Half Marathon (21.0975km), Mini Marathon (4.2km)

IX.             Starting time

8:00 a.m. on October 20th, 2013.

X.                Marathon race route

i.           Starting point: Tian’anmen Square; by way of Dongcheng District, Xicheng District, Haidian District and Chaoyang District.

ii.         Finishing point: Cerebration Square of Central Area of the Olympic Park

XI.             Competition Method

                        i.              Race shall comply with the latest CAA Rules and Regulations.

                      ii.              Roll-call: Register according to the scheduled time and area of the events. Elite athletes, CAA registered athletes, and athletes to apply for the National Class shall register separately at special roll-call quarters in the south of the monument of Tiananmen Square 40 minutes before the race. Athletes with CAA register ID shall bring the register Card and athletes to apply for the National Class Title shall bring their second-generation identity cards.

iii.           Start order: Runners shall be positioned in the order of Male/Female elite athletes, Male/Female CAA registered athletes, athletes with national class titles, general Male/Female marathon athletes, Run for Charity athletes, half marathon and mini marathon. 30 meters shall be kept in between each of the above teams. Registered marathon athletes shall be positioned in front of the marathon team, followed by other runners.

iv.           All events of the race will start at the same time upon the start signal.

v.             Route closure time limit:

To ensure the race to be run securely and smoothly, the race route will be closed to the public traffic at successive sections during the race period. After the closure time, the road sections will open to public. Runners failing to finish corresponding distances at stipulated closing time shall cease the race and quit the race to avoid possible danger. Runners who exit the course may get on the pick-up coaches to the finish area.

vi.       Timing method:

Transponder Timing chips, supplied by the organizing committee, will be available to all marathon (42.195km) runners.

Transponder Timing chips are adopted, so runners must go through all timing blankets, which are respectively placed at the distance points at starting, 5km, 10km, 15km, 20km, 25km, 30km, 35km, 40km and the finishing point. Final score will be null if any of the time points is missed.

Timing chip deposit: Athletes need to pay a deposit to get timing chips, RMB 100yuan for Chinese residents and 16 USD for foreigners. Timing chip deposit and entry fee shall be paid together. Timing chips will be issued at the expo site (where participants fetch race articles), together with the bib numbers.

Timing chip refunding: Athletes may return the timing chips to the timing chip refunding desk at the finish point on the race day or to the organizing committee within five days after the race and the deposit of RMB 100yuan will be refunded. Deposit is non-refundable if the chip is lost or damaged. Deposit will not be refunded if the runner failed to fulfill the refund procedures within the specified time.

vii.     Marathon and half-marathon runners shall follow the instructions and rules to keep their personal belongings. No valuables left in bags, such as mobile phones, valid documentations, cash, keys, palmtops and mp3 players, etc. Runners may collect their deposited personal belongings at designated service area before 15:00 on the race day. Alternatively, runners may visit Organizing Committee’s office within seven days after the race. Items will be treated as ownerless if they are not collected within seven days after the race. 

viii.   Beverage, drinking water and energy replenishment station

Beverage and drinking water/sponge station: Beverage stations will be installed every 5km after the starting point. Drinking water/water will be served between two neighboring beverage stations.

Energy replenishment stations will be made available at the following point: 27.5km, 32.5km, and 40km.  

ix.       For detailed information on other requirements and arrangements of the competition, please refer to the Race Manual for Runners issued before the race (provided along with race articles before the race or downloadable from the official website of Beijing Marathon).

x.         Doping test will be conducted according to rules of the IAAF.

xi.       Video surveillance will be carried out by the Organizing Committee during the entire race. Runners will have their competition scores cancelled, plus a two-year prohibition from the race and additional penalties from CAA if committed the following fouls:

                        i.              Sign up with false age or displaced by others after enrollment.

                      ii.              One runner carries more than 1 timing chips in the race.

                    iii.              Disobey the race order or start the race at wrong position.

                    iv.              Start racing at the set time, or jump the gun.

                      v.              Occupy course after the route closing time.

                    vi.              Take shortcuts or jump into the race from halfway.

                  vii.              Refuse to get the souvenir by passing the finish line again as required.

                viii.              Unable to complete the race but palm off the finish line for souvenirs.

                    ix.              Ignore warnings or disobey orders from event staff..

XII.          Prizes

Note: The prize money will be granted according to the race time.

b)        Time bonus (in U.S. dollars): The award is issued to runners for their highest performance, non-accumulative.

Male:    140,000 U.S. dollars for sub 2:07:30 (include) and the champion only.

210,000 U.S. dollars for 2:07:31-2:08:00.

Female:  140,000 U.S. dollars for sub 2:19:39 (not include) and the champion only.

21,0000 U.S. dollars for 2:19:39-2:20:59.

( 3 ) 4,000 U.S. dollars for 2:21:00-2:21:59

Note:    Chinese athletes will receive the prize in equal value of RMB.

c)        Special time bonus for Chinese athletes (in RMB): Male and Female Chinese athletes will be awarded with 10,000RMB if they finish sub 2:15:00 and 2:30:00 (included), respectively. Additionally, they have to be ranked in the top 3 places, respectively.

d)       (1) Each of the top 3 male and female athletes will be awarded with a trophy, a medal and one suit of sportswear.

(2) All runners completed the whole course in stipulated time will be awarded with bath towel, souvenir medal and score certificate.

(3) Designed race T-shirts (As the T-shirts are ordered and made in batches, it is not possible for the Organizing Committee to guarantee all runners will get their shirts that are most suitable and runners are thus recommended to get their shirts as early as possible), sport suit bags, bib numbers and Beijing Marathon Manual will be given out to all runners before the race starts.

Note: (1). the above prizes and bonus are subject to 20% personal tax.

    (2) Results and Certificates for athletes who complete the entire marathon can be viewed and printed.

    ii.                  Half marathon:

a)        The top 8 male and female runners will each be awarded with a medal and a suit of sportswear.

b)        All  runners will be supplied with a race T-shirt, sport suit bag, race number, Beijing Marathon Manual and certificate (The organizing committee will not supply timing chips, and runners need to fill in the scores according to the timers at the finishing point by themselves) respectively before the race.

   iii.                Mini marathon:

All runners will be provided with race T-shirts, sport suit bags, race number, Beijing Marathon Manuals and certificates (The Organizing Committee will not supply timing chips therefore runners need to fill in the scores according to the timers at finishing point by themselves) respectively before the race.

XIII.       Participation requirement

                        i.                   Participant age requirements:

a)        Marathon participants shall be over 20 years old (born before December 31, 1993).

b)        Half Marathon participants shall be over 16 years old (born before December 31, 1997).

c)        Mini Marathon participants shall be over 13 years old (born before December 31, 2000).

d)       Children younger than 13 years old may participate in the family run when companioned by parents (guardians). (read the ‘family run regulations’ for details)

Participants must enroll with valid credentials, such as identity cards, passports or military IDs, in line with age requirements for respective contests.

Notes: Elite foreign runners and CAA registered athletes may comply with age requirements of the IAAF.

                      ii.              Requirements for runners’ physical conditions:

Marathon is an athletic sporting activities of high load and great intensity over long distances. It is also a high risk athletic sport. Thus, it raises high demands on participant physical conditions. Participants should have good health and long-term running or training experiences. Participants may choose among the contests of Marathon, Half Marathon, and Mini Marathon, according to their own physical conditions and actual abilities.

Patients suffering from the following diseases shall not take part in the contest:

a)        Congenital heart disease and rheumatic heart disease;

b)        Hyper tension and cranial vascular disease;

c)        Myocarditis and other heart diseases;

d)       Coronary artery disease and serious cardiac arrhythmia;

e)        Hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia diabetics;

f)         Patients of other diseases unfit for sports.

                  iii.              Registration:

a)        Registration period:

Registration is open on September 8th, 2013;

Registration for marathon, half marathon, mini marathon and family & kid run will be open to receive application on September 8th, 2013.

Registration for respective events will be closed upon full entries.

During the registration period, participants may register through the registration system on the Beijing Marathon official website. Registrars must provide all required information, and will only be successfully registered after receiving a serial number when registration fee is paid.  Prospect registers may log on the official website for bib numbers and download and print the credential sheet to collect race articles after the online system is closed. The  credential sheet along with valid personal identity cards (passports, military IDs) will be the only accepted documents for collecting race article before the race at the Beijing Marathon Expo site.

b)        2013 Beijing Marathon can accommodate 30,000 runners including 15,000 for marathon, 7000 for half marathon and 8000 for mini marathon. The registration will be closed upon full entries (all registrars except for elite runners are only officially enrolled upon successful payment).

c)        Registration for 2013 Beijing Marathon is only open to individual runners. To register for family and kid run and college championship, please refer to corresponding rules and regulations. Individual participants must log on the Beijing Marathon website; fill in registration application and pay registration fee. In the unlikely event of registration system failure registrars must fill in the individual registration sheet (Appendix I), and contact the officially appointed registration sites to complete registration and pay registration fee.

d)       The top 50 professional runners of the races hosted by Chinese Athletic Association will be allowed to participate in the race free of charge. The runner who has record of completing a full marathon within six hours will get priority to enter into the race.

e)        National Class Title registration: Participants registering for national class title must sign up on the official Beijing Marathon Website.

f)         CAA registered athletes need to enroll the race on the official CAA Website.

             iv.              Registration fee:

a)        Chinese registrars (including registrars from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan): RMB 120yuan per person for marathon; RMB 80yuan per person for half marathon and mini marathon.

b)        Foreign registrars: USD 80 per person for marathon, USD 65 per person for half marathon and mini marathon.

The organizing committee reserves the right to accept or refuse registration according to the status of enrollment. Upon confirmation, registration fee is non-refundable.

XIV.       Medical Aid

          i.              The Organizing Committee will install one medical aid station every five kilometers along the Marathon route, with apparent signs 50 meters ahead of the station. Ambulances will follow the runners on the route.

        ii.              The Organizing Committee will assign one volunteer every 100 meters along the route to assist medical aid station staff and maintain race order. Runners may seek assistance from them if any problems occur.

XV.           Insurance

The organizer will insure all marathon runners and staff with life accident insurance. Specifications of Life Accident Insurance are available for consulting at Beijing Marathon official website or designated registration sites before the race.
